Enjoy the longest day of the year in paradise

Things to do

Happy summer solstice! Here in Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii, the sun rose over the mountain at 5:43 a.m., and will set into the sea at 7:07 tonight, giving us a total of 13 hours, 23 minutes of sunshine in paradise on the longest day of the year.

One day, many adventures…

One of the things that makes the Big Island so special is the opportunity to experience the polar opposites this island offers. For example, you can start your day watching the sun rise from the top of Mauna Kea, the tallest sea mountain in the world, bundled up in a warm jacket and sipping a cup of cocoa.

From summit to sea…

Then, you can end your day on the beach, toes in the sand, sipping a cold drink while the sun slips into the sea. (Maybe you’ll even see the legendary green flash as the sun disappears into the horizon!) It’s experiences like this that make us proud to call Hawaii our home, and why many of our visitors return year after year.
