Our top 5 sea-view suppers with spectacular sunsets

Things to do Vacation Rentals

We think there’s no better way to end a day of exploring Hawaii island or basking on the beach than with a cold beverage and delicious meal while watching the sun sink into the sea. Here are our top 5 favorite places to enjoy a sea-view supper and spectacular sunset view, on any budget.

1. Lava Lava Beach Club

This open-air, beachside restaurant is located in Waikoloa Beach Resort, within easy walking distance to many of our lovely Hawaii vacation homes. Here, you can literally have your toes in the sand while you sip a tropical cocktail or locally brewed beer, and order from their menu featuring a variety of relaxed island cuisine. Many evenings you can also enjoy live Hawaiian music and hula. This is a wonderful place for families with keiki (children), who can run around and play in the sand while the rest of the family relaxes under the palm trees.

2. Hau Tree

Located on the beach at the breathtaking Kauna’oa Bay, this open-air restaurant is part of the elegant Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, with excellent proximity to our vacation homes at Wai’ula’ula. It offers a causal dining menu with sandwiches, wraps, hamburgers, salads, ice cream and cocktails (the Fredrico is highly recommended!). Be sure to check out their Saturday evening beach clambake, offered seasonally. After dinner, take a stroll along the shoreline and see if you can spot a manta ray swimming right offshore!

3. Kamuela Provision Company

If you are celebrating a special anniversary (or perhaps planning a proposal!), this restaurant offers the perfect setting. Located at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, near a wide selection of our Waikoloa Beach Resort vacation homes, this restaurant boasts a stunning oceanfront setting overlooking the ocean. Listen to the waves crash along the shore as you choose from the upscale menu featuring prime steaks, fresh island seafood and an extensive wine list.

4. Magics Beach Grill

If you find yourself in Kona one evening, enjoy a meal and the view at this bar and restaurant overlooking the famous Magic Sands Beach (where the sand “magically” disappears in the winter). Their menu is filled with carefully crafted drinks and fresh, flavorful, local food, much of which is sourced from local farmers, fishermen and producers.

5. Beach BBQ

If you’re vacationing on a budget, then grab a couple beach chairs, throw a couple cold drinks in a cooler, and pick up a to-go meal (the Island Gourmet Deli at Queen’s Marketplace has an excellent selection) and head to one of the lovely beaches for a sunset picnic. We love Anaehoomalu Bay in Waikoloa Beach Resort, Holoholokai Beach Park in Mauna Lani Resort or Hapuna Beach, all of which are convenient to our Kohala Coast vacation homes.
