Brews with a view – Explore the Big Island’s local craft breweries

Things to do

For craft beer lovers, spring is one of the best times of year on the Big Island. Each year in early March is the popular Kona Brewers Festival, taking place this year on Saturday, March 9.

The festival is held outdoors, against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean in downtown Kailua-Kona, where you can sample a wide selection of brews from Hawaii and the mainland while enjoying the spectacular view. Chefs from top restaurants serve up samples of island-fresh cuisine and local musicians provide island-style entertainment.

Love to run? Love to drink beer?

If you like to run and drink beer, check out the Run for Hops 5k or 10k run/walk, taking place earlier in the day. Later in the month, there is the Run for Beer 5K at Ola Brew in Kona on March 23, and the Beer Run 5k at Big Island Brewhaus in Waimea on March 24, both part of the Hawaii Brewery Running Series.

Big Island breweries

Not here for the March festivities? Not to worry. You can drop by many of the island’s local breweries for samples or tours anytime during the year. Most people know about Kona Brewing Company, but there are several others on island, too, including Big Island Brewhaus, Hawaii Nui Brewing, and the newest, Ola Brewing.
