Anytime is a good time to visit Hawaii, but spring is especially sweet. For one, spring brings the annual Big Island Chocolate Festival, taking place each year here on the Kohala Coast, convenient to many of our vacation rentals.
A good time for a good cause
The festival schedule includes chocolate farm tours, a tequila and chocolate pairing, seminars and demonstrations, and chef culinary competitions. It culminates with a gala event with tastings at more than 25 sweet and savory food booths, beer, wine and cocktails, live music, a DJ, dancing and silent auction. The event is more than a good time – it also raises money for a good cause! This year, proceeds will benefit six local nonprofits.
Sweet flavors of spring at Hawaii farmers’ markets
Spring is also a great time to head to the farmers’ market for some fresh, local, in-season tropical fruits. While many fruits (like pineapple, papaya and several different varieties of banana) enjoy a year-round growing season, some of our favorites make their debut in spring and summer.

If you come soon, you can catch the end of the rambutan, strawberry and starfruit season. Meanwhile, delicious tropical treats like lychee, mango, dragon fruit and lilikoi (passion fruit) are getting ready to peak.
